Park Brakes
- DSD has developed advanced dynamic simulation tools which simulates the engagement performance of park brakes over all activation conditions.
- Detailed system geometry is modelled using dynamic models which take into account the detailed contact between the pawl and wheel and the actuation mechanism to pawl. These models contain the contact stiffness, damping and friction during contacts.
- The tool is used to tune the detailed geometry of the pawl to wheel contact, the actuator plunger to pawl geometry and the actuation spring rate and preload.
- The effects of tolerances are investigated to determine the potential engagement envelope and to ensure this meets the requirement of the system.
- These tools have been correlated and proven against actual test data from hardware developed for electric vehicle transmissions and automatic transmissions.
- Electrically actuated pack lock developed with Camcon Automotive including prototype build and rig testing (see video below).
