Recruitment Notice – Senior Transmission Engineer

Drive System Design Ltd is a mechanical transmission design and development consultancy working in the automotive, renewable energy and off highway industries. We are based in Southam, Warwickshire.

1. Outline of Role

The role will be based at the Southam office with occasional work on site at client offices expected. Regular travel to overseas client sites is also expected. This role will report to the Chief Engineer.

The role involves the design of automotive transmission components, such as gears, shafts, housings, selector systems, clutch systems etc. Therefore the candidates must have prior experience of automotive transmission design. It is expected the candidate will also have experience of the design requirements of an automotive transmission and must be able to apply knowledge of analytical techniques to the design process. Knowledge of a transmission design analysis package (MASTA, Romax, Kissoft) would be an advantage. Candidates who only have experience of CAD modelling should not apply.

A high level of aptitude is expected along with the ability to determine innovative solutions to the numerous design challenges which present themselves during a typical design project. Evidence of this capability should be demonstrated by the candidate. Candidates will also be required to have an understanding of the commercial aspects of a consultancy business and to be able to present themselves and their work to a customer.

2. Responsibilities

Specific responsibility for full transmission or a transmission sub-system will be assigned for each project depending on prior experience.
Technical and commercial management of projects as well as generating and maintaining customer relationships.
Component or system design analysis (hand calculation and design analysis software).
CAD design using any of Pro-E, Inventor, CATIA, UG NX.
Compliance with Drive System Design quality standards.
Presentation and communication of technical design elements to client companies.
