In the role of Senior Engineer – Motor Controls, Electrified Powertrain, you’ll be responsible for developing and supporting the validation of motor control algorithms, utilising our state of the art simulation tools and in-house test facilities.

What you will need
Essential:
- Experience specifically designing control systems for motor controller products, preferably variable frequency drives for use with electric motors.
- Hands-on experience testing motors and electric drive systems
- An understanding of the electromagnetic & thermal principles of electric machines
- An understanding of the electrical & thermal principles of related power electronic technologies
- Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art control techniques and emerging technologies
- Worked in a system engineering environment
- Strong verbal/written communication organisation skills
- Capable to develop a strong technical reputation and relationship with colleagues, customers and
Desirable:
- Experience designing control software for DC/DC converters.
- Understanding of the electromagnetic design and development process of electric motor hardware
- Experience designing PCBs for high power applications.

Key Responsibilities
You will be:
- Defining and leading the control design efforts for motor controller products and associated control algorithms, such as V/Hz, vector control (sensed and sensorless), regenerative control and others.
- Developing computer simulations in Matlab or other equivalent tool to verify designs and predict performance.
- Designing and developing schematics for LV controller hardware circuits and assist in the design and development of mixed signal circuits, sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, protection circuits, and other circuits typically used in power electronics applications.
- Defining protection alarm and trip thresholds, current, voltage and other feedback loop controls, monitors, customer interfaces, product programme parameters and communication links.
- Helping to generate Bills of Materials, block diagrams, wire lists and point to point diagrams, and component specifications to support the documentation process internally and to customers.
- Assisting in developing and implementing test procedures for power converters and motor drives.
- Assisting in conducting tests in the lab.
- Specifying, designing, and procuring lab test equipment and instrumentation.
- Helping to conduct system reliability analyses.
- Reviewing and analysing customer requirements and specifications related to motor drive control and assists sales and marketing in reviewing and developing proposals.
- Helping to generate product specification and documentation.
- Supporting system installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair in DSD’s lab and/or at customer facilities.
- Providing mentoring and training to less experienced engineers.
- Staying abreast of technology trends in the field of power converters and controls for motor drive applications.
- Acting in the capacity of subject matter expert within the Company
- Managing small-medium sized projects to achieve budgeted margin and maintain an excellent relationship with customers, whilst being accountable to the operations board for their outcome
