Research Review: SPH Fluid Modelling for Increased EV Range

Range anxiety and purchase price are key obstacles for the adoption of EVs, so the challenge remains to improve efficiency and extend range without pushing up vehicle cost. While aerodynamic drag is the main source of energy loss at high speeds, under 80km/h the most effective way to maximise range without adding cost is by improving EV drivetrain efficiency.

DSD has been applying Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) to extend robust analytical design methods to reduce fluid simulation time from weeks to just a few days, to address the interactions between rotating components and the transmission lubricant.
